Getting Ahead, Participant Spotlight - Porshea
Porshea Boseman is one of the many inspiring participants of the YWCA of Asheville. As a graduate of our Getting Ahead Program, Porshea recently spoke at a YW event and generously shared her experiences of navigating life’s many setbacks and struggles. Her participation in the Getting Ahead Program led to increasing her education and developing skills which have allowed her to build a better future for herself and her children. Beyond her personal accomplishments, she has been the biggest motivator to women in her community by sharing the experience she has had with Getting Ahead and sharing the resources and connections that she has created. In fact, the group that just graduated had twelve of her friends, including her sister. She is truly dedicated to empowering others.
Porshea shares “I now KNOW anything is possible. I have accomplished so much with the support of the YWCA, and the women in my Getting Ahead group. But, beyond what I have accomplished I am able to leave a legacy of resilience and strength to my children.”
Her moving words and clear determination as she shared that she recently earned her GED, purchased her very own vehicle, landed a job with better pay, and continues to improve her trajectory by earning a phlebotomy certification garnered her job offers and additional speaking opportunities that are sure to motivate others to continue their growth. She did all of this while working AND raising four children as amazing as she is.
We are so proud of Porshea, she is now one semester away from her certification and finished this semester with top marks in her psychology and certification courses.
